My clients and I work on improving their wellness and their lives by exploring helpful solutions, perspectives, and habits.
Do you feel anxious, depressed, or stuck in a difficult season of life? Have you lost your sense of self, or feel paralyzed by shame? Life can be difficult, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Whether you're navigating anxiety or a difficult season of life; struggling to balance school/life balance; or just trying to "adult" - you deserve support! Together, we'll uncover what's going on beneath the surface and get you to a place where you can feel confident again. I'll help you identify potential triggers contributing to your distress, teach you coping skills to manage symptoms, and help you feel strengthened to take back control of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. While faith is not a requirement to work with me, I have found that many of my clients are in need of a safe space where they can openly express their Christian values. Upon request, I'm honored to incorporate faith into sessions to further support women in the mental health journeys.
We are a collaborative of skilled, holistically oriented experienced mental health professionals offering a variety of high quality psychotherapy services in the High Country area. Our center was founded in 2003.

Hey! I'm Ivory Simmons, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). As a Winston-Salem State University alum, I earned my Bachelors in Rehabilitation and Human Services and Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. I have experience working with a variety of individuals including children, adolescents, and adults. I assist clients with depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, life transitions, and more. I aim to help clients develop positive coping skills, improve self-love, find their inner voice, and develop a toolkit to use as needed. I believe in taking an integrated approach to therapy. I operate from a Person Centered/ Solution Focused Therapeutic approach, emphasizing empathetic understanding, congruence, and being goal directed. I will always offer a safe and comfortable environment to empower you. I will focus on the solution rather than the problem. In our counseling relationship, we will work together to build a genuine empathetic non-judgmental relationship. We will strive to achieve your goals while providing strategies for desired change/outcome.
We are a practice that has you, our client, as our primary focus. We work in collaboration with each other to offer you the best help and the best tools available. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with about a decade of professional counseling experience. I enjoy many things, including wandering the great outdoors, getting lost in a good story or my latest creative endeavors, hanging with my people and my pets, and learning about others as I journey alongside them. Whether someone needs a guide or simply some encouraging company, I’m here for it! I have a wide range of experience with various demographics and concerns, but specialize in working with challenges related to personal development, identity and values, relationships (including the relationship with oneself), and trauma. These can include relationship issues (family, friends, or romantic partners), parenting/guardianship, boundaries, grief, various traumas, fears and phobias, self-esteem and self-efficacy, guilt and shame, depressive and anxiety disorders, health issues, healthcare and educational work, and significant life changes. My approach is holistic, person-centered, strengths-based, and multicultural, and may combine aspects of the following: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Schema Therapy Attachment-Based Therapy Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Existential Therapy Gottman Method Mindfulness Therapy Narrative Therapy Play and Filial Therapy Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) I also believe that nature, music, creativity, and humor can play important roles in mental health, and may incorporate these elements into my practice. And, I would love to learn more about your interests and perhaps find ways to bring them into therapy! One of my key strengths as a counselor is my adaptability; I make it a priority to understand your needs and preferences, tailoring my approach accordingly. I always strive to be a warm and approachable counselor who is non-judgmental, respectful, honest, compassionate, and empowering. While I maintain professionalism, I also like to create a relaxed atmosphere during our sessions. (You can expect to see the real me, and I hope to see the real you!) I want therapy to be a positive and rewarding experience for you, and I will do my best to help you feel welcome. During our first sessions, I will likely focus on going over the basic policies and expectations, answering questions, getting to know you better, and learning how I can best support you in this chapter of your life. I'm here to meet you wherever you're at, and I would be honored to accompany you, support you, and empower you on your journey toward holistic wellbeing!
Life doesn't have to feel so hard. You may be anxious, insecure, worried, depressed, lost, or stuck. Maybe you're preoccupied with food & your body. Or stressed out trying to be perfect & get it right, but it always feels like you're falling behind. Maybe your relationships are unsatisfying or you're having less-than-ideal sex. You can't quite put your finger on the problem, but you know that life just feels like a drag right now. You don't have to keep struggling. No matter what's going on, you can make positive changes that improve your life. You deserve to feel joyful, confident, & free. I want to help you get there.
College can bring a lot: new freedom, pressure to succeed, and the stress of figuring out who you are and where you are headed. Many of the students I work with feel weighed down by anxiety, burnout, overthinking, imposter syndrome, or the pressure to be perfect. Others are coping with ADHD, past/current trauma, anxiety and social anxiety or just the everyday stress of classes, relationships, and big transitions. With 12 years of experience working in university counseling centers, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges of college and graduate students' lives. In our work together, you will find a supportive space to talk honestly about what is on your mind, learn coping tools to manage stress, and feel more grounded and confident. My goal is to help you feel less alone and more able to handle the challenges of college life.
I enjoy helping to support people as they navigate through the many different waves of life. I help to create a warm, non judgmental, and supportive environment where clients are free to talk about their stories. I draw from a number of different treatment modalities, but most importantly, meet the client where they are at. While each individual's experience is unique, I regularly work with clients around topics related to anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, relationship concerns, sexuality, ADHD, life's transitions, familial conflict and many more. In this busy world, it can be difficult to make time to focus on your needs. Therapy provides a space to do so and share your story in a safe and non judgmental environment. Sessions are a time to practice self care, utilize your strengths, and develop tools that help you gain a better understanding of you. I would love to have the chance to work with you and hear your story. Currently, sessions are teletherapy based allowing you more flexibility to be in a familiar setting and join from any mobile or desktop device. I would love to help you with the process of learning more about you and develop the tools to navigate the many waves of life.
