Group practice
Miramar, FL

The Sanctuary Care & Counseling Center is a counseling practice that aims to facilitate wellness through the integration of spirituality and mental health. This is done through ensuring that clients feel safe, supported, and are persistently reminded to extend themselves grace and self-compassion. In the Sanctuary clients are provided a safe space to discuss the complexities of "adulting", process their trauma, navigate grief, adjust to change and transitions, be vulnerable about their fears and insecurities, and express uncertainty and ambivalence about their faith stories. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to have it -" all together". We invite you to The Sanctuary, where we will partner with you as you strive to figure it out.

Grief can make us feel lost and confused, but we can feel better. People typically think grief and loss are solely about losing a loved one. But we endure ambiguous losses more often than acknowledged. It can occur through experiences such as depression, anxiety, a relationship break-up, pandemics, or other life events. Although the emotions might seem to be everlasting, healing is achievable. I believe everyone needs support from others at some point in their lives. That does not mean they are weak or incompetent. It just means the situation might be harder to manage independently. That makes us all human. For over 20 years, I have worked with diverse populations addressing various mental and behavioral health needs. I want to help you learn strategies to address unhealthy thought patterns so that you can have more control over your overall well-being. I believe therapy is a partnership. Together, we can work towards achieving your desired goals.

I love working with people who think they may have lost the plot. Who wonder if their symptoms may be a natural reaction to our society and our utter disconnection....from everything. I see you, and I get it. I think there is more to a life well-lived than mainstream notions of success. Come explore your life through values exploration and honest self-assessment, whether short or long-term. Welcoming and affirming for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC. I have an eclectic approach, which is a fancy way of saying that I don't rely on any one way of approaching curiosities. But my starting point is always from a place of your strengths, the things you are doing well, and your unique interests/wants/needs. I trend toward elements from Acceptance and Commitment, Positive Psychology, Existentialism, Brief Solution- Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Radical Acceptance, and Mindfulness. I am progressive in my politics, non-religious, and I believe that cursing is a valid form of self-expression. Humor is a big part of how I communicate and I believe it can get us through a lot of things. Despite being a middle-aged white woman who grew up in the south, you will find no bigoted mindset here. I will never pretend to understand the totality of your experience, but I do promise to see you, hear you, and respect you, while being mindful of the systemic, familial, and cultural issues that may be impacting you. I have stopped taking insurance because of all the barriers it creates from its medical model of viewing functionality and need. I know this creates a financial barrier for some, but I believe that until the system changes, its more of a detriment overall. But lets check those out-of-network benefits and see what we can squeeze out of the insurance company for you :)

My choice to enter the field of nutrition originates from my personal journey of overcoming struggles with food and my commitment to challenging and deconstructing diet culture. I have worked in various levels of care for eating disorder recovery as a dietitian and clinical director. I grew up in rural Virginia and still get excited that I live close to a Target these days. When I am not seeing clients you can find me watching BRAVO TV, reading my Kindle, and going out for sushi. Philosophy & Approach: I use a Health at Every Size® (HAES) and Intuitive Eating framework. I founded Embrace Nutrition with the purpose of individuals having a safe and non-judgmental space to develop healthier relationships with food & their natural body size. College can be an exciting time—but it can also feel overwhelming. Between classes, relationships, and planning for the future, it’s easy to feel anxious, lonely, or unsure of yourself. If you’ve been struggling with stress, depression, or relationship challenges—or if you’re just feeling stuck and want things to be different—I can help. Many students come to therapy when they’re navigating big changes: adjusting to college life, dealing with breakups or family conflict, grieving a loss, or trying to manage perfectionism and pressure to succeed. Together, we can explore the patterns that keep you feeling anxious, unmotivated, or dissatisfied—and help you build new ways of understanding yourself and relating to others. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I help students tap into their strengths, learn healthy ways to cope with uncertainty, and create more authentic, fulfilling relationships. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, but it’s really an act of self-care and courage. It’s a space to be heard without judgment—and to begin making meaningful changes in your life. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, confident, and connected, reach out today to schedule a session.

It is my belief and practice that we are more than our limited thinking minds. If you have tried other traditional therapies and find them lacking, you may find my Transpersonal , Jungian, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral approach to be of benefit. The transpersonal is defined as "experiences in which the sense of identity, or self, extends beyond the individual or personal to encompass greater meaning. This can include exploring non ordinary states of consciousness. Licensed in MD, VA, DC, FL, DE, VT and WV. I have expertise in the integration of Eastern and Western psychotherapies and philosophies with modern psychodynamic principles, Non-Dual approaches, and contemplative and meditative practices. This approach encompasses the mind, body, & spirit. It is my experience that a persons deeper beliefs (what I call Meta-principles) determine life experiences. My integrative practice includes life coaching, altered states work, psychotherapy, meditation instruction, hypnotherapy, neurofeedback training, and mindfulness based treatment. Life as a college student is supposed to be great, but at the end of the day it can really suck. Exams, studying, roommates, relationships, missing home - these are all things that can drive us crazy, not to mention any depression or anxiety that might have been hanging around before. And if you’re dealing with sexuality or gender identity issues, it can really feel difficult. If you’ve made it this far you’ve taken an awesome step towards figuring stuff out. It’s not easy to do, and therapy really can help with the right fit. Whether it’s LGBTQIA+ issues, dealing with a less than ideal roommate, or just figuring out what you want to do with your life, I’ve been there and want to help you through it too.
