I am a licensed professional counselor. I have over 13 years of experience working in the social work and counseling field. My background includes working with social service agencies through foster care and adoption; working in the school setting as well as homes of families; collaborative efforts with community resources; 13 years of ongoing training and education to include LPC. My experience is focused on anxiety and depression management with CBT modalities as well as women issues. Other experience includes parenting engagement, play therapy, mindfulness, and talk therapy. I have experience and will work with all age groups. When we change our thoughts we can change our responses and that can make all the difference with the outcome.
Resolute Counseling aims at improving mental health through the promotion of social health, physical health, and spiritual health. We make every effort to collaborate with community organizations to help connect people with additional supports. All four of our counselors have a passion for working with young adults and college students. Life is full of transitions. Changes can often bring unforeseen challenges. Balancing life- children, family, work, school– we often have expectations for ourselves and of others that we struggle to meet, leaving a feeling of being alone, without focus, and overwhelmed. I will help you explore these issues and whatever else is on your mind. We’ll work together to find joy in relationships, find meaning in activities, and regain control in the navigation of life.
Therapy is a great tool to explore how your past experiences and early relationships influence your current relationships, symptoms of anxiety, depression, and how you navigate and process feelings. I truly believe the relational component to therapy (relationship between therapist and patient) can bring to light reactions, feelings, and patterns that show up outside of the therapy space. With this, you can begin to gain insight into how these experiences make you feel and make changes that align with your wants and needs. My hope is to create a collaborative, non-judgmental and validating space to allow for exploration of concerns and enable growth. I encourage you to contact me so we can begin to explore what is holding you back from living a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
At Forest Counseling we help individuals and families make discoveries about themselves while helping them overcome the obstacles they face. I'm passionate about helping my clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of how they show up in the world. Have you ever said to yourself, "there's got to be more to life than this!" or wondered, "what do other people understand that I'm just not getting?". If you find yourself craving an easier flow to daily living and more enjoyment of the present moment, you're in the right place. I firmly believe each person has the ability to create a life they love and live with more inner peace and contentment. I'd love to support you in your journey of self-growth and exploration!
I am a licensed professional counselor who has over 10 years of experience working with adults. I use an active and collaborative approach to help manage panic, anxiety and obsessive worries. If your anxiety is getting in the way of your ability to enjoy your life, our goal is to empower you to face your fears and be able to do the things you want.
I work with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, life transitions, and relationship issues. I understand how trauma, childhood attachment, family of origin dynamics, and harm within our social/cultural/political systems underly many of these struggles. And I know how these painful experiences can disconnect you from yourself, your loved ones, and the joys of life. Together, we will explore the patterns that keep you stuck, understand their roots, and learn new ways of navigating life's challenges. Our work will help you restore a sense of agency and reconnection to your authentic, grounded Self that's innate to us all. My approach is relational, collaborative, and attachment-based. I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR and integrate these models for powerful trauma processing and self-exploration. I support clients to shift from intellectualizing into more experiential understanding of your emotions, body, and life experiences. My clients describe me as warm, attuned, and able to hold them in all of their complexity. I don't view my role as "fixing" or giving advice, but to hold, support, and challenge you to create the changes you want in life. I look forward to getting to know you!
Hi! I'm Heather, and I work with trauma survivors, high achievers, and people with lots of anxiety. While I work with all kinds of trauma, my most significant experience is at the intersections of religious trauma and LGBTQ+ identities, and/or high intelligence. I like working with people who want to understand why they do the things they do, or who already know but can't seem to stop doing them.

*Update 3.26.20: “Social distancing” need not interrupt or delay therapy. Many therapists (including myself) are providing telepsych (remote/distance) sessions via phone or video-call during this uncertain and surreal time. Many of us (including myself) have also lowered our student rates. You don’t need to hire me, but if you’re struggling, please connect with *somebody*. Now back to my regularly scheduled profile;) Hi! So, you’re checking out therapist profiles and considering therapy. Good move. Sometimes, talking with friends and family just isn’t enough. Maybe your mood, anxiety, relationships, use, or self- harm has gotten worse? I’m sorry you’re struggling - though you came to the right place. Really. Therapy can help you feel less overwhelmed and less stuck; break self-destructive relationship patterns and behaviors; take better care of yourself; get substance use under better control; and .... really, anything *you* want to address. For more than 20 years, I’ve worked with adolescents and young adults struggling with school, relationships, ADHD, grief, anxiety, depression, self-injury, substance use, and most anything else you can imagine. I am passionate about my work - most especially my work with your age group. My niece dubbed me a “teenaged grownup”. I didn’t argue:) Here are some “reviews” by real clients: *easy to talk to and approachable *Understands the student experience and WCU culture * she gets what it’s like to be my age in the 2000s * She’s pretty funny sometimes * she treats me like a real person *very accepting and non-judgmental; I can talk with her about super sensitive stuff. *She cares. I trust her. You can learn more about me and my practice on my website. If we decide to work together, know this: I am honest, sincere, and direct. I will never impose my agenda or beliefs on you. I want to help you become the best version of yourself. You needn’t see *me* But, if you’re struggling, please try at least a few sessions with *somebody* The best therapy takes place in a relationship in which you feel heard, respected, and safe. Please don’t settle for anything less. Best, Amy
