Accepting New Clients! Welcome! Thank you for taking this important step! Beginning therapy is an act of courage and self-care, and I’m honored to walk alongside you on this journey. I became a therapist because I believe people have an ability to heal, thrive, and live full, meaningful lives. I specialize in creating a safe, supportive, and collaborative space where you feel respected, heard, and empowered as we work together towards personal growth. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, stress, racing thoughts or trying to cope with a traumatic experience, I’m here to help. In our sessions, we’ll use Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies and Mindfulness to build coping skills, manage emotions, reshape unhelpful thoughts, strengthening your connections to what matters most. Bring your questions, hopes, and concerns—this is your space to explore, heal, and grow. Together we’ll create a plan tailored to your goals and move at a pace that feels right for you! [ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FOR WEDNESDAYS, SATURDAYS, AND SUNDAYS] [NOTE: I cannot accent clients who attend the University of Pittsburgh due to a conflict of interest] My mission is to join with others in pursuit of healing, empowerment, and liberation. Those who work with me are often exploring issues of gender, sexuality, and race; privilege, marginalization, and systemic oppression; complex trauma; and relationships. We often focus on alleviating the anxiety, depression, and disconnection from self and others that can come with these experiences. Together, we work towards building self-understanding so you can make decisions about your life and relationships with awareness and intention. I am a queer, agender, social justice-focused and relationally-oriented therapist. Central to my approach is curiosity about the cultural systems and personal relationships that shape your experience. I also have experience integrating tarot, ritual, and dream work as therapeutic tools. I am happy to incorporate your personal healing practices into our work. The relationship we build is our greatest tool for healing. I approach therapy as a collaborator, and work with clients to create a relationship characterized by trust, safety, authenticity, vulnerability, and warmth, humility, and genuine care. We can dream up what healing looks like and strive towards it together.

On the outside, you’re a success- but on the inside, you're secretly miserable. Your emotional reactions are unpredictable, extreme, or out of control. You feel helpless to change and you worry that you will feel this way for the rest of your life. You may have felt depressed, anxious, or both, for years - or have a history of trauma that still affects you. You wish that you had more control over the way that you feel - that you didn’t lose it so quickly. You’d love to strengthen the meaningful relationships in your life and be able to open up more freely. And of course you’d like to reduce any self harm urges and actions. I can help you. The most frightening step is asking for help and you’re already here. I make therapy convenient with weekend/evening hours, available online to individuals residing in Pennsylvania, Kansas, and all states with enacted PSYPACT legislation (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap) Please note that clients from New Jersey are not being accepted at this time due to state legislation issues related to telehealth providers. - Level 3 trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (through Behavioral Tech) - Level 2 trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (through AEDP Institute) - Certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure (through the Department of Veterans Affairs) PLEASE NOTE: Sessions are online only.

Do you struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, burnout, or feeling disconnected from yourself or others? Even if you’ve learned ways to cope, do you feel ready to process what you’ve been holding and begin healing more deeply? The clients I work with are often thoughtful, resilient individuals who want to better understand their experiences and reclaim a sense of safety, balance, joy, and meaning in their lives. Some are curious about exploring creative expression as a way to access emotions and experiences that may be difficult to talk about directly.

As a first-generation college graduate, I know how challenging it can be to find your way. For this reason, I helped students on their college journeys for over a decade before transitioning to clinical practice. Many of my clients are cycle-breakers: the first in their family to address mental health concerns and build healthier relationships. I help clients manage anxiety, depression and challenging family relationships (i.e. emotionally immature parents/adults). You CAN have a different experience. If this resonates with you, schedule a free consultation to talk about how I can support you on your journey.

I received my M.S. In Counseling from Villanova University and pursued doctoral studies at Immaculata University. In 1994 I became a licensed psychologist and opened my own private practice in Wayne, PA. I have been an adjunct professor at Chestnut Hill College in their graduate psychology department. I completed advanced studies in Jungian psychology at the C. G. Jung Institute in Philadelphia. In 1997 I became a certified Imago Relationship therapist where my goal was to assist couples in having more conscious, loving and intimate relationships. Central to my work is a powerful self-discovery tool … the Enneagram in which I received training in 2001. I use it extensively with clients as well as outside groups where I give presentations and teach classes on the Enneagram including volunteer teaching of the Enneagram at Montgomery County Correctional Facility. In 2014 I received my certification in coaching through the Coaches Training Institute. I since have developed a coaching practice to complement the work I do in the therapeutic and counseling areas. In addition, I also give presentations and talks for married couples, parent associations, support groups, and health and wellness audiences.

Hi name is Vanessa, The students I work best with often have a lot on their plates. They may be high-achieving or highly motivated, but still feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. Many are juggling school, work, family expectations, and social pressures, and feel like they’re expected to “have it all together” even when they don’t. The students who tend to thrive in my practice are open to self-reflection and curious about understanding themselves better. I am most aligned with individuals who want practical tools to manage stress, improve confidence, and cope with emotions, but also want space to talk things through without judgment. Clients I serve don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy—many just want support, clarity, and a place where they can be honest. If you’re a student who feels overwhelmed, stuck, or simply in need of support while figuring things out, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to do it by yourself. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and build skills that help you move forward with more confidence and balance.

You're not going crazy! The stress of our early 20's and college years is woefully underestimated. It is often the time when we will experience our first serious bout of depression, or paralyzing anxiety. You may have managed to keep some of this at bay through high school, but now you feel like you've hit a wall - just when you were "supposed to be" independent. I specialize in empowering young women to navigate this period of transition with clarity, insight, and choice. It is often said that crisis creates opportunity. Now is your opportunity. Let's talk!

The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings. To learn more about my practice or to request a phone call to discuss a consultation visit, please visit my practice website, www.terrafirmapsychiatry.com.
