Therapists for college students near 27705
I am a cancer survivor, an active duty military spouse, and a child of grief after losing my father at a young age to addiction. Building resilience and fostering hope is not just something that I practice professionally, I have lived it. These experiences combined with my clinical background have given me a unique perspective on healing. I value the realness of showing up as yourself in and out of the therapy room. When I am not wearing my therapist “hat” you can find me at the movies, cuddled up on the couch with my two fur babies, or in the kitchen. I am a serious foodie, dog mama, bookworm, Bravo-binge-watcher, coffee fiend, and yes….I am a millennial. I love to paint, listen to 90s country, decorate for the holidays, and travel (when I can!).

I am the Adultingcounselor! Let me help you figure out this thing called "Life". Going through a battle on your own is the norm (for some of us) but are “you” ready to change that narrative and create the life you deserve and desire. As you are adulting, we face hardships, both big and small. I believe that being an adult doesn’t stop you from being trapped/stuck in situations that are sometimes hard to face or get out of. Unfortunately, if these issues aren’t addressed, they can and will control our lives. When you change your thoughts, you change your life! We will discover your concerns about your purpose, both personally and professionally. Exploring and identifying your true self and meaning in life. Let me help you understand and manage unresolved issues, such as stress, burnout, financial stress, loss of sense of self, and more. Helping adults (18-30) navigate through counseling successfully, learn skills, and accomplish the life they want to live is my passion. We can’t stop how life happens, but we can change how we view it. If this is you, a family member, or someone you know. Let's get started today!
We are a diverse group of clinicians specializing in treatment of clients dealing with psychological and behavioral challenges. We offer individual, couple and family therapy. Our core values are quality of care, individualized approach, person centered & cultural competence.
I provide a warm and welcoming presence in sessions, allowing clients to relax and speak freely. I have a wholistic approach to counseling, recognizing the connections between mental, physical, relational, emotional, and spiritual health. Clients often come to me when they are experiencing times of transition in their lives (marriage, break-ups, pregnancy, motherhood, fatherhood, college, graduation, the death of a loved one, etc.). I enjoy helping clients process these changes and move towards clarity and calm. Change affects everyone in different ways, and it is important to recognize your own style of processing in order to heal. I work hard to create a space for your soul, the unique person you are to grow, to change, and most importantly to heal so that you can move into the next season with hope and the tools to handle whatever that season brings.
I have been a practicing psychologist in Boone, NC for almost 20 years. I have worked with college students in various capacities throughout most of my career. Therapy is like taking a class on yourself. You are the expert on you. My goal is to hold a safe, comfortable space for you to feel heard and seen and to know that your feelings are valid. I believe you/we all innately have the strength and ability to endure, overcome, heal and grow. I want to help instill confidence and motivation to support your on journey. To help you feel grounded and find ways to tap into your inner strength. By gaining insight into the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors you will be able to improve you mental health and reach your behavioral goals. Together we will identify goals and create a plan to achieve them. In therapy you will learn coping skills and strategies to navigate difficult situations and emotions. At times this means processing through past events, current experiences and traumas. Other times, there is a need to focus on tangible action-oriented goals. To learn concrete strategies to manage the demands of life, cope with stress and regulate mood. Perhaps this is even a time to challenge yourself as you are growing and becoming the version of yourself you hope to be. Transitioning into school as a freshman, as well as into your post graduate life, can be hard to navigate. You are faced with various demands: academic, social, financial and otherwise. I take a multi-systemic approach to treatment to ensure you are fully utilizing resources and supports (on campus and in the community) that may help you along. My areas of expertise include but are not limited to: anxiety and panic; depression, bipolar disorders and mood dysregulation; substance use and abuse; assessment, treatment and management of adult ADHD; grief; management of chronic medical conditions that are co-morbid to mental health issues; developmental transitions; college student wellness. I take an eclectic approach to therapeutic interventions built on the foundation of a strong therapeutic alliance. Using a strengths based, multi-systemic and holistic approach; I draw from interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI).

I love working with adults (age 18 and up) on anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, and body image issues. I enjoy educating clients about attachment theory and helping people learn how to cope when their attachment styles are triggered. I have been a therapist since 2017 and bring a lot of experience to my practice. I am very warm and funny, but can be direct when it is appropriate. My goal is to help clients learn in session, so I do provide feedback. I like teaching clients about boundaries and how to effectively communicate them.
Perhaps you’ve been keeping your head above water in your day-to-day life, but find yourself worrying a lot or feeling stuck in a “funk." Maybe you’ve been carrying something heavy for long enough, and are finally ready to talk through it in a supportive space. Or maybe you simply want to feel heard and understood as you navigate a tough transition in your life; you just need someone to be there with you while you do it. While anxiety and trauma may leave us feeling depleted, I believe that counseling can help us find our most authentic and resilient selves through these experiences. My aims are to listen with non-judgment, to help you identify the goals and steps toward them that feel right for you, and to offer support, tools, and even a gentle nudge when you need it. We will co-create a space that feels safe enough to talk about the hard stuff in life, while also shining plenty of light on what helps you feel hopeful and positive. The decision to start counseling is not an easy one, and I know feeling a good connection with your counselor matters. I am passionate about building genuine and effective relationships with my clients and find that empathy, authenticity, and even humor are helpful tools in doing so. A lot of the students I work with are used to being the “put together” one. The responsible one. The one who pushes through. But behind the scenes, they’re exhausted. Many are dealing with complicated relationships with food, body image, or perfectionism while also navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, or chronic illness. From the outside it might look like they’re managing fine, but internally it can feel like a constant battle with their own mind or body. A lot of my clients are thoughtful and self-aware, but tired of feeling stuck in the same patterns or feeling like they’re constantly fighting themselves. In therapy with me, the goal isn’t to shame or rush you into change. Instead, we slow things down and get curious about what your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are actually trying to communicate. From there, we work on building coping tools, creating more flexibility in patterns that feel rigid or overwhelming, and rebuilding trust with your body. You don’t have to come in with everything figured out. Many of my clients start therapy feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or even skeptical — and that’s completely okay. Therapy is just a space where you can show up honestly and start making sense of things at your own pace.
