Together, we can evaluate where your personality, coping skills, behaviors, lifestyle, and relational habits come together either to promote or impede your health. I am passionate about helping people who suffer from obsessions, compulsions, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, perfectionism, and other such unhelpful behaviors. My attention to all-around health is useful for working with those experiencing depression or problematic substance use. In addition, I enjoy supporting those experiencing relational or familial difficulties, romantic/sexual dissatisfaction, or working through issues at the intersection of gender and culture. Our work will be tailored to your unique goals and personality. Using interventions from ACT, ERP, CBT, and mindfulness, I will help you to act in sustainable, value-aligned ways by changing how you relate to your thoughts and emotions. Psychodynamic, existential, spiritual, and holistic health frameworks will provide additional support to our work together. With humor, insight, compassion, and skill, I can help you recognize where you get in your own way and establish new modes of being. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience. My areas of specialty include: depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, conflicts around cultural identity, life transitions, and academic and career struggles. I am particularly interested in helping clients who face conflicts around their race, culture, and identity. This may include first and second-generation immigrants who have the challenge of straddling multiple cultures and finding their authentic voice. I work pragmatically and collaboratively with clients to achieve their goals. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL where I received the Walter Burke Award in Clinical Excellence and a Distinction of Honors on my Ph.D. Comprehensive Qualifying Paper. At Northwestern, I trained in psychodynamic and dialectical behavioral therapy and published several research papers on juvenile detainees and violence in persons with severe mental illness in peer-reviewed journals. I completed my internship at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY where I treated adolescents, families, and adults in outpatient clinics, a Psychiatric Emergency Room, and on an adult inpatient unit. Afterward, I worked as an individual and group psychotherapist and clinical supervisor at the counseling center at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. At Fordham, I was also the outreach coordinator in which I regularly interacted with marginalized students on campus. In addition to working as a psychotherapist, I worked at the Harvard Business School assisting with the organizational psychology course, “Authentic Leadership Development.”
Hello, I’m Lea Rossu, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor dedicated to helping children and adults navigate the complexities of life with compassion and understanding. Whether you’re going through a major life transition, adjusting to the demands of parenting, or managing anxiety, stress, or depression, I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can explore, grow, and heal. With 9 years of clinical experience, I specialize in working with individuals who are facing change—expected or unexpected—and need guidance to regain stability and confidence. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to your unique needs and values.
I enjoy working with students during this time of transition in their lives. Away from home, students must learn to structure their time to study and embark on a social life. This is a good opportunity to develop self-awareness and discover which relationships are best for them. Most of my clients are creative: writers, musicians, actors, artists, photography, and film. Many are introverts and/or highly sensitive people. I help them embrace their introversion as a gift rather than a liability.
Therapy is about seeking balance and asking questions and looking for answers. Finding a balance between what we feel and what we know and a balance between the quicker emotional side of our mind and the more considered rational side are part of the process. Whether the questions are around school, interpersonal relationships, substance abuse, or career and motivation the answers will come only with this balance. My approach to therapy is about solving problems based on a relational and collaborative approach offering a supportive and sympathetic ear balanced with reality and solutions. With nearly 25 years of experience in the field I bring a diverse background giving me strong clinical skills in the areas of substance abuse, depression, anxiety, career and family issues. Life is a series of experiments, some good some not so good. Therapy is a way to sort out the good from the bad and, giving yourself credit for what you know and can do and putting it to work for a better tomorrow I invite you to give me a call at 617-524-1220 To protect your privacy my phone is a confidential landline which does NOT accept text messages

I ground my practice in establishing a warm and affirming therapeutic alliance, the relationship between client and clinician. From there, we establish a flow, understanding, and goals. This can look like anything from DBT skill-building, to sharing humor, meditating, or validating the parts of us that need love or care. As a former educator, I especially enjoy working with young people who are managing the variety of contending expectations which come along this stage. As a former professional musician, I understand the value of art and creativity in the healing process, the helpfulness of structure and consistency when needed, and the challenges that come with art as a career. Therapy can be a scary thing to jump into. Because of this, I prioritize making landing in therapy be as collaborative and catered to your needs as possible. Therapy should be a space that feels like yours, where you can feel safe to grow and problem solve in the ways and at the pace that feels best. I look forward to chatting!

I think it is extremely courageous to admit we need help. I believe one of the most important criteria for successful treatment is to have a trusting, open, "therapeutic rapport" with a client. Without trust and a good connection, the therapeutic process cannot begin. With that in mind, I believe the first step is creating an environment safe from judgement and rich in support. My focus is to enable clients to acquire insight, skills, and motivation for emotional, cognitive, and behavioral transitions.I specialize in older adolescent and adult individual therapy as well as family and couples counseling. I assist clients in developing healthier coping and inter-personal skills that address topics related to: assertiveness, anger management, parenting strategies, managing mood disorders (anxiety and depression), impulse control, PTSD (EMDR), life transitions, grief, conflict resolution, mindfulness, sexuality, and stress management. I am a big proponent in assisting clients built self-confidence. I also have a degree in Accounting as well that I use with individuals and couples around money management, budgeting, savings, and retirement planning. I also have experience as a business consultant for individuals.
