I'm a PhD psychologist, with advanced training beyond my doctorate from Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. My orientation is relational, psychodynamic therapy. This means I focus with you on whatever dynamics might have been set in motion when you were younger as well as with present day difficulties. I work with people who are struggling with feelings of sadness and anxiety, worries about self esteem, identity, friendships, relationships and career issues among many other things. Sometimes there are struggles with issues about being away from home at school, or issues about entering adulthood. I am happy to try and help with the things troubling you.I've worked with many students both undergraduates and graduate students and enjoy helping young adults sort through what might be troubling to find a more satisfying and happier way of being.

Great to meet you! My philosophy is simple: listen first, treat second. I take time to understand your story, explain how diagnoses and medications work, and ensure every decision is made together. You’ll never feel rushed or dismissed. I value transparency, education, and collaboration in every session. My approach to treatment: What you can expect from our first session Our first session is about getting to know you. We’ll review your current concerns, explore your history, and discuss what you hope to gain from treatment. Most importantly, you’ll be met with patience and respect. This is a space for you to feel heard, understood, and supported as we begin working toward meaningful change together. Hi and welcome to the start or continuation of your mental health journey. You are already making a wonderful first stride in your healing process by searching for a therapist! If you are in a place where you feel stuck and want to change, let's address it. It is good to have an unbiased person in your life, who can keep it respectfully real with you and provide a space to communicate your feelings. We all go through so many life changes, but when it becomes unmanageable, how do we cope? As a therapist, I specialize in working with adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, and inner conflict. I work with clients from a strengths-based, perspective; focusing on your positives and using them to help with your challenges. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); breaking down how our thoughts directly affect our behaviors. Every client is different and I will work to make sure I am providing the appropriate interventions for your growth. You have so much potential and it is okay if you seek out help, it is commendable as we do not have to navigate this life alone. If this resonates with you, I look forward to hearing from you and helping you work on your life goals! Contact me for a consultation to see if we are a great fit and assess goals. Let’s work together, I would love to support you.

Hi, I'm Shani! I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maine. My clients come to me for support with a number of concerns including: major life transitions including coming out, grief, transitioning to adulthood, or shifting family dynamics. They may also be working through identity exploration, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, anxiety, or struggling with managing the constant heaviness of the world. My clients tend to be insight-oriented and motivated to engage in the therapeutic process. My style is warm, non-judgmental, patient, and highly attentive to issues of social justice. I practice with sex-positive, body-positive lenses and actively work to incorporate values of decolonization and anti-racism. I am deeply committed to supporting members of my LGBTQIA+ community and our allies and I believe strongly that immigrants strengthen our communities. When clients first start therapy, I take great care to establish a counseling space where they feel safe, supported, respected, seen, and heard regardless of background. I want our time together to be something that clients look forward to and believe the quality of the client-counselor relationship sets the foundation for the work that we will do together. When you’re ready, I’m here to help. Even if you don't fully believe it yourself just yet, I know that things can - and will - get better, and I am so looking forward to working with you.

Are you seeking to understand yourself better? Are you looking to make sense of your relationship dynamics? Do you wish things were better, but you don't know how to get there? You CAN feel empowered by an expanding of your understanding, gathering insight, and educating the choices you make in how you decide to live your life. I work with couples, and adults to help make sense of obstacles, understand how relationship histories effect life today, and become more comfortable with themselves. This is done in an atmosphere where you are accepted for who you are. We can discuss your goals. Many people feel uncomfortable considering therapy as an option for themselves. It can be difficult asking for help, believing that asking for help means we are inadequate in some way. In a do-it-yourself culture, reaching out to others can cause us to feel like we are less than, but trying to meet our own needs is actually a strength. My clients often report that they have gained more insight into their lives, that they feel more at home within themselves and more capable of handling life's difficulties as they inevitably arise. Couples leave my office feeling like they understand themselves and their partner more clearly, and report greater relationship satisfaction.

It can be hard to know when to call a therapist. Have you found yourself thinking the below thoughts? -There is something wrong with me -I don't understand the way I am feeling -No one understands me -This isn't supposed to be the way my college experience is -I just can't handle these feelings of sadness/stress/anxiety If so, it sounds like you could benefit from talking to a therapist. Life is hard and therapy can be an effective tool to help navigate life's difficulties. As your therapist, I will sit with you and listen as you share your struggles and we will make sense of things. Together, we can figure out how you are unintentionally "getting in your own way" and also recognize the ways you are helping yourself thrive (but perhaps hadn't even realized it!). I'll teach you about your emotions, the mind-body connection and the relationship between thoughts-feelings-behaviors. This information will help you learn new and better ways to help yourself when you are feeling overwhelmed with your emotions and life challenges. Sounds like this could be helpful? Send me an email, we can schedule a 15 min phone call where I can answer your questions and we can get started.

I am the former psychotherapist at Harvard University, dedicated to Harvard Law School. After leaving, during the early pandemic, I appreciated the effectiveness of remote therapy and the convenience for my clients in the academic field – whether students or faculty. I have a fully remote practice and welcome your contacting me for a brief conversation so that we can see if it might be a good fit to work together. I have a lot of experience helping students in the fields of not only law, but also medicine, business, education, STEM and divinity, cope with the challenges of building their careers and professional vision in the context of both personal and professional challenges. I am also the former founder and director (for 20 years) of an adoption agency. I have a keen appreciation for the interests and challenges of members of the adoption triad. In over 30 years of clinical work, one of the key lessons I’ve learned is how important it is for clients to feel heard. Whether navigating challenging personal, academic or professional dilemmas, feeling understood is the first step in clients beginning to contemplate their available choices. I draw from a wide clinical knowledge base and broad training (family systems, CBT and other modalities) to help clients achieve their goals. Along the way, my hope is that clients feel increased personal power, greater confidence and ease as well as expanded capacity to connect with others.. I work remotely through video-conferencing, using a HIPAA compliant platform. Please feel free to email me to request a brief initial conversation so that we might see if it feels like a good fit to work together toward achieving your goals.

My approach is collaborative and open-minded. I offer both long-term and short-term psychotherapy. True healing occurs when individuals can reflect on the ways they engage with others, with the world, and with themselves. Relationships are often a focus because it is here that struggles often present themselves.

I enjoy working with college and graduate students and have had many students from the colleges in Boston and the surrounding areas. I assess and treat those struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, relationship issues, social anxiety, and weight issues. My husband is a Taiwanese immigrant and as a mother of a biracial child I am familiar with acculturation and identity struggles. I've worked in multiple weight and pediatric/adolescent clinics and many of the Boston hospitals, as well as UMASS Medical Center Worcester, and often get the feedback that clients like that I'm specific with my feedback and suggestions and don't just nod my head. Well I know human behavior, you know you best, and working together I enjoy seeing my clients lives change and being a part of their growth.
